First, thank you for taking the time to look at my work.

My name is John McDowell and am an advanced amateur photographer which means that I don't rely on photography for a living. However, it is something that I am absolutely passionate about. The following information is presented in an effort to explain what I do and avoid possible misunderstandings.

The reason that you are probably here is because I have contacted you via OMP or other modeling service. The purpose of this website is to give you some idea of the quality of work that I do and what is involved.

I do TFP/CD (see below) shoots for model portfolio development. My goal is to help bring out the best in a model to produce the best possible images. I love being creative and making beautiful images of beautiful women. These shoots give you the opportunity to develop your skills as a model and for me  to develop as  a photographer... (no pun intended)

I like "sexy" when it's tasteful. I don't do porn or "adult". I like to experiment with different looks and want to do more glamour, headshots, and dramatic work. I'm always open to exploring any ideas you may have. After all, it's your shoot and you get to say what kind of images you want to do.

I have use of a professional studio in San Francisco on various Saturdays and Sundays (depending on availability).

I take my photography seriously and genuinely want to produce the best possible images. All I ask is that you take your modeling just as seriously. That being said, I work very hard to make my shoots a lot of fun which I believe shows in the finished work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is TFP/CD?
A: TFP/CD stands for Time for Prints and/or CD.  You get prints and a CD of the best of the finished images in exchange for your time modeling.
Q: Are there any costs for the model?
A: No. The  model provides her modeling services as her part of the shoot. It's not actually free; you have to earn your part the same as I do.
Q: Can anyone take advantage of this?
A: No. You have to send a recent headshot and full-length body shot to give me an idea of your overall appearance and complete the attached Questionnaire. You need to have very good photogenic qualities.
Q: Who gets the copyright to the images?
A: We both do. See the Model Release. It's balanced and fair to both of us. I don't plaster my name all over your images in exchange for you giving me credit when you use them.
Q: How soon will the finished images be ready?
A: I will send you a CD of the usable images for you to choose from. After I receive your selections, it takes about two to three weeks for me to complete the touchups and get them back to you. (I have a day job)
Q: How many photographs do you get?
A:  The model gets six (6) fully touched up images and another twelve (12) with minimal retouching.
Q:  Who does makeup and hair?
A: I have tried to find responsible MUAs to work TFP. There don't seem to be any that are reliable and responsible. So, it is up to you to either do your own or bring someone along with whom you are comfortable.
Q: Is it OK to bring someone along?
A: Of course you are welcome to bring someone along. I only ask that it be someone that doesn't inhibit you from fully exploring your modeling ideas. If they get in the way, they will be asked to wait outside until we finish the shoot.
Q: How long does a shoot take?
A: A typical shoot will take about four (4) hours with a short break along the way.
Q: How do we get started?
A: Fill out the Questionnaire and e-mail along with a recent head shot and full body shot (they don't have to be professionally done). I will review them to see if you have the qualities that I am looking for in my photography.
Q: What do I expect of you?
A: I expect you to be on time and be professional. I expect the same from you as I do from myself.

Feel free to contact me either by e-mail or phone, 415.373.7543,  to discuss the possibility of doing a shoot or just ask questions. You'll never know unless you try.

Thanks for looking at my work. I look forward to the possibility of working together.
